Lifting
heavy materials or objects and transferring them to a
vehicle or a different location is a very tiresome
activity which may require a lot of time and energy.
Mankind has always needed to transfer heavy things to
different locations since anybody can remember. At some
point in history, man must have decided to use a flat
surface, with the aid of gravity, to lessen the effort
required to move things around; thus, the loading
ramp was born.
The
inception of the loading ramp has led to enormous
breakthroughs in construction. The ancient Egyptians have
used this to great effect. By definition, a loading ramp
is a surface structure, most often incorporating storage
materials such as barrels, aided by gravity to transfer
objects to a desired location.
The
loading ramp has come a long way from the modest flat
piece of wood which it started from. There are now
several different sorts of loading ramps made suitable
for different kinds of loading situations. There are
loading ramps made specifically to load motorcycles onto
the back of pickup trucks; loading ramps for moving
around luggage; loading ramps for wheelchairs; loading
ramps for moving pets within their little cage; loading
ramps for moving around little vehicles such as water
skis; and there are even loading ramps for moving around
other loading ramps.
There
is nearly an infinite amount of uses for the loading
ramp. Some vehicles even come with them built-in and
can neatly fold into it. A loading ramp can be made of
different materials, depending on what it is meant to be
used for; for example: using a normal loading ramp is not
recommended for lifting large heavy steel safes. Luckily,
there are heavy-duty loading ramps made of much tougher
materials more suitable for such transfers. As previously
mentioned, loading ramps are made of different materials
and differ in their complexity; some loading ramps are
just sturdy pieces of wood. Gravity and the laws of
nature are what make them work so
efficiently.
One
of the most useful tools to pair up with a loading ramp
would have to be a dolly. A dolly, put in technical
terms, is a conveyance consisting of a wheeled platform
primarily used for moving heavy objects. Without one of
these, most of the storage materials that go through a
loading ramp would have to be round like a barrel. A
loading ramp partnered with a dolly is an extremely
efficient method of transferring objects and is
guaranteed to save everyone’s time and effort as well as
speed up the process of things, making everyone’s lives
easier.
From
its modest beginnings as a simple piece of wood aided by
gravity to the most complex of loading ramps powered by
hydraulics, the loading ramp is one of man's
greatest inventions, along with the wheel which has
helped all the ancient, and modern, civilizations with
building their great structures or just simply making
moving to a new house easier. Loading ramps have been
used for hundreds of years and have evolved to become
what it is now. No matter what its capacity or material,
a loading ramp will always be useful.
